Best Ideas for Smart Home Security in 2017

The increasing popularity of home automation means that more and more companies are moving towards offering different types of automation for everyday use. This includes the usual home automation tools, such as table lifts for use in television stands, coffee tables, storage space, and much more, as well as thermostats and home security.

Drop down TV lifts are something which have been popular since almost the beginning of the home automation boom, as they are both simple to construct, and have many purposes around the home. Table lifts are most often thought of because they are often used in the construction of tables for TVs and radios, allowing them to be moved in and out of site as the homeowner wishes.

Security systems are now becoming more popular because the increase of technology means that more can be done, from cameras to lighting. The best part of the new technologies is that, depending on what type of security system is involved, there is no technical know-how needed; they can be set up and run by anyone.

Smart Lighting

Everyone knows that the common wisdom is to leave a light on a timer when you are out of your house for a longer period of time – this will make it seem as though there is someone as home (otherwise there wouldn’t be a light on). Adding technology to this has given us smart lighting, lighting which can be controlled remotely, and which has more variety to it than simple timers do. Think of smart lighting as combining the motion-sensor lights with the lights on a timer, except with even more functionality.

Have random light patterns

  • Having one light on a timer can sometimes attract burglars instead of warning them away – having a random pattern makes it seem as though someone is moving around the house, and you can even input a ‘bedtime’ so lights will go out at a pre-determined time.

Motion-sensor lights

  • These are useful for a number of reasons: not only the obvious (frightening burglars), but also by lighting the room up in the event of an emergency.

Remote-controlled lights

  • Having light control available via remote means that you can turn lights on in dark areas, which helps when someone comes to the door at night, or at any other time when it is dark.

Smart Water Sensors

Smart water sensors are perhaps an unusual choice of home security, but the recent advances in technology mean that they can now be part of it. Having sensors attached to the water system can send texts and other alerts in the event of some form of emergency, such as a burst pipe, and they can also keep tabs on the water in the home generally, allowing you as the homeowner to keep an eye on situations which could potentially lead to mould occurring in the house.

Video doorbells

Getting up to look through a physical doorbell will soon be a thing of the past if homeowners pick up a video doorbell. This new technology allows people to use their mobile device of choice to see who is at the door, without needing to move from their seat. The use of cameras and microphones can help people to make sure if it safe to approach the door, which is useful for those who live alone, or for anybody answering the door after it is dark.
